Timpanogos Regional Hospital in Orem was named by The Joint Commission as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures™.
Timpanogos Regional Hospital earned a spot on the Top Performer list for consistently using evidence-based clinical practices that lead to better outcomes for patients experiencing heart attacks and pneumonia or undergoing surgery. The ratings are based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2014 calendar year.
This is the second time in five years that Timpanogos Regional Hospital as earned the designation as a Top Performing Hospital by The Joint Commission. Timpanogos Regional joins a list of only 15 hospitals in the state of Utah to achieve this distinction. This notable designation is the direct result of a concerted team effort to further enhance the quality and safety of patient care throughout the hospital.
"We are so proud to be named as a Joint Commission Top Performing Hospital," says Kimball Anderson, CEO at Timpanogos Regional Hospital. "By achieving this designation it demonstrates that we are committed to achieving positive patient outcomes by consistently practicing evidence-based care that matters. Our medical staff and those who support them are proud that, as a result of their integrated efforts, our hospital was named among the top performers in the country."
Timpanogos Regional Hospital is among the top 18 percent of Joint Commission accredited hospitals that report core measure performance data. Every hospital on the Top Performers list met the following criteria for 2011:
- Performance of 95 percent or above on a composite score that includes all the accountability measures reported to The Joint Commission, including measures that had fewer than 30 eligible cases or patients.
- Performance of 95 percent or higher on every reported accountability measure, excluding any measures with fewer than 30 eligible cases or patients.
A 95 percent score means a hospital provided evidence-based care 95 out of 100 opportunities to do so. Each area of practice includes several accountability measures. For example, giving patients with heart attack symptoms an aspirin at arrival, giving antibiotics one hour before surgery, and collecting a blood culture with 24 hours when patients arrive at the hospital with pneumonia symptoms, and are then hospitalized.
"Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality health care. I commend the efforts of Timpanogos Regional Hospital for their excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions," said Mark R. Chassin, MD, FACP, MPP, MPH, president and CEO, The Joint Commission.
